Allegations of ties between President Obama’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, and the man she is replacing. Conspiracy theorists think Obama nominated Lynch to protect Eric Holder from investigation of various scandals within the Obama Administration.

iRumorMill.com Determination: Real and Inconclusive

This conspiracy theory came from Dr. Orly Taitz, a long time critic of President Obama, who still questions the authenticity of the President's birth certificate. Taitz posted an article on her website, which went viral in a matter of days. Taitz asked, "Was Loretta Lynch picked to be a gate keeper and cover up criminal investigation of Eric Holder, who is married to Lynch’s friend, Sharon Malone?"

The suspicions raised by Taitz may be spot on.

Lynch was a member of an African American sorority at Harvard with Sharon Malone, the future Mrs. Eric Holder. This according to a Washington Post article dated November 8, 2014. The article was not mentioned by Taitz but this may have been her source for her suspicions.

According to her bio posted on the Department of Justice website, Lynch was appointed by Holder to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee in 2010. In 2013 she was named Chair of the Committee and she also sits on the Department of Justice’s Diversity Council.

It is not known if the Senate will confirm Lynch and according to a November 11, 2014 article by The Hill, it is doubtful that her confirmation will happen while the Democrats have control of the Senate. The article said, "A packed schedule after the election is almost certain to push the vetting process for Loretta Lynch into January, when Republicans are set to take power in the upper chamber."  The Hill reported that the decision is to push her nomination hearing in the lame duck session could still made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) 

As for the allegation that Holder covered up Obama’s use of a stolen CT Social Security number of Harrison J. Bounel (042-68-4425) and Obama’s use of bogus IDs, that may be incorrect. 

Taitz has been on the trail of Barack Obama's mysterious past since he was sworn into office. This is the  Social Security number she alleged to belong to a Harrison J Bounel. In 2011 Taitz also alleged that the same number to belong to Jean Paul Ludwig, which was easily debunked by the usual gang of iRumor debunkers. The iRumorMill.com Crew has not located Bounel but during an investigation several years ago we were able to confirm that questionable Social Security number actually belonging to Barack Obama.

The assumption the the first three digits represent the state of residence of a citizen is incorrect. When Barack Obama listed his mailing address on the form he must have used an address in Connecticut. It may not have been the same as his residential address. According to the Social Security Administration website, the first three numbers are a geographical code, but should not be taken that seriously:

The Area Number is assigned by the geographical region. Prior to 1972, cards were issued in local Social Security offices around the country and the Area Number represented the State in which the card was issued. This did not necessarily have to be the State where the applicant lived, since a person could apply for their card in any Social Security office. Since 1972, when SSA began assigning SSNs and issuing cards centrally from Baltimore, the area number assigned has been based on the ZIP code in the mailing address provided on the application for the original Social Security card. The applicant's mailing address does not have to be the same as their place of residence. Thus, the Area Number does not necessarily represent the State of residence of the applicant, either prior to 1972 or since. Generally, numbers were assigned beginning in the northeast and moving westward. So people on the east coast have the lowest numbers and those on the west coast have the highest numbers.

Note: One should not make too much of the "geographical code." It is not meant to be any kind of useable geographical information. The numbering scheme was designed in 1936 (before computers) to make it easier for SSA to store the applications in our files in Baltimore since the files were organized by regions as well as alphabetically. It was really just a bookkeeping device for our own internal use and was never intended to be anything more than that.
