The conspiracy theorists have not been able to prove their findings.
According to a July 14, 2009 article by England's Telegraph, some of the popular questions people who doubt the moon landing ask are:
There is no wind on the moon so why did the American flag
wave while the astronauts were putting up? Why do no stars are appear in any of
the photos taken by the Apollo astronauts from the lunar surface? Why is no
blast crater shown in any of the photos of the lunar landing module? At a weight
of 17 tons, why are there no impressions in the sand beneath the lunar landing
module, even though the astronaut's footprints are clearly visible?
Why to images of the astronauts footprints in the fine
lunar dust appears as if they were made in wet sand when there is no moisture or
atmosphere on the moon?
Questions like
these were raised for a number of reasons, but mainly because the items left behind by
astronauts can not be clearly seen from the Earth by telescopes. Also, the lack of eye witnesses
because only ten men have walked on the
lunar surface, during five different mission that have successfully landed on
the moon. These ten men were all
NASA astronauts. Thirdly, although remote controlled lunar orbiting vehicles have
photographed the landing sites no independent human has been to the moon to
confirm the landings took place.
Amateur astronomers, who gaze at the moon searching for the landing sites
on the lunar surface, have a hard time locating the concrete evidence of
the equipment left behind on the surface after every moon landing. According to
an April 19, 2013
article by Space.com,
viewers "won't see anything left behind by the Apollo astronauts, but you can
compare the views in your amateur telescope with the published photographs taken
by them."
Back in the 1970's conspiracy theorists alleged NASA and the U.S. Government
misled the world into believing the all the moon landings actually took place.
Some of the tricks belied that they used were making, changing, or destroying
photos, radio signals, data from telemetry recorders, and television
transmissions.
It was not until 2009 NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has sent images of the Apollo moon landing sites. According to the NASA report, the "pictures show the Apollo missions' lunar module descent stages sitting on the moon's surface, as long shadows from a low sun angle make the modules' locations evident." Between July 11 and 15 five of six Apollo landing sites were captured by the The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, or LROC. The Apollo 12 site was photographed weeks later.
Some conspiracy theorists have a little more zealous in their investigations. The second man to step foot on the moon, Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, was repeatedly questioned by a conspiracy theorist, Bart Sibrel, who repeatedly asked Aldrin to swear on the Bible that his moon mission was real. Sibrel's series of questions and encounters bordered on harassment and stalking, and after one too many Aldrin lost his temper and punched Sibrel. The incident was caught on camera and has been a favorite on YouTube.
