On October 22, 2014 a gunman opened fire on the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, Ontario. Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32, of Quebec shot and killed reserve soldier Corporal Nathan Cirillo at the National War Memorial and then ran inside the Parliament. The assailant was a recent Muslim convert.  Conspiracy theorists are saying that the White House has denied that this was a terrorist attack.

According to an October 22, 2014 article by Britain's Daily Mail, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was shot dead by Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers after the terrorist opened fire at Parliament Hill. The Daily Mail reported that he was "born in Quebec but reportedly recently converted to Islam and had his passport seized after being designated a 'high-risk traveler.'"

The Daily Mail article said that after an interview of witnesses at the incident the suspect was described as a "short with long hair, overweight, wearing a dark jacket and 'Arabic scarf.'"

The article said that this attack "came two days after another Canadian soldier was killed in Quebec by a man with jihadist sympathies."

President Obama was reluctant to call this an act of terrorism. During a White House press conference he said, "We don’t yet have all the information about what motivated the shooting.  We don’t yet have all the information about whether this was part of a broader network or plan, or whether this was an individual or series of individuals who decided to take these actions."

The following day White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest appeared before reporters to answer questions about the incident in Ottawa and called it "despicable terrorist attacks." This according to an October 23, 2014 article by The Hill.

Earnest said, "When it comes to dealing with terrorist activity, it is clear that Canada and the United States have to be entirely in sync. We have been in the past and we will continue to be in the future."
