Bush was a founding member of Planned Parenthood in 1947 as the organization's
first treasurer. Bush's involvement with Planned Parenthood took place almost 30
years before the passage of Roe v. Wade, the law that made abortions legal in
the U.S..
According to the history page on the Planned Parenthood website, the original mission of the organization was "helping patients with their reproductive health and contraceptive needs, clinic physicians also used it as a training center for physicians."
In August 2015 allegations that
members of the Planned Parenthood organization were profiting from the
harvesting organs and body parts of aborted fetuses. Governor Bush was expressed
concerns regarding the funding of the organization by the U.S. government.
