Bob Denver is dead but he died in 2005, not 2017. This according to the official website of the Gilligan's Island actor.

Denver starred in various productions of the Gilligan's Island series from 1964 to1992.

Prior to that he was best known for his role as beat nick Maynard G. Krebs in the Dobie Gillis series.

He entertained audiences from 1957 to 1997.
