The death of David Bowie was confirmed in a Facebook post on the artist's official page: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
A Jan. 11, 2016 article by the Britain's Guardian reported "Writing on Twitter, Bowie’s son, the film director Duncan Jones, 44, said: 'Very sorry and sad to say it’s true.' The news came as a shock to some, who were initially sceptical, but Bowie’s publicist, Steve Martin, told the Reuters news agency: 'It’s not a hoax.'”
Bowie's career spanned for over 5 decades and was best known for pioneering the genre Glam or Glitter Rock with such hits as "Ziggy Stardust" and "Life on Mars."
The artists recently released a new album, which included a song called "Lazarus." Many long time followers of the artist speculate that the Lazarus music video was Bowie's farewell message to his fans.
