Fort Carson on Lockdown Because of a Missing Nuclear Weapon

Viral posts on Facebook and other social media alleging that nuclear weapons have gone missing at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs and that the military base is on lockdown. Determination: Real but Inaccurate Details

Fort Carson has been on lockdown since Sunday, but nuclear weapons have not gone missing at the military facility, according to an October 14, 2014 article by the Denver Post.

The article said, “Fort Carson put the lockdown in place after someone removed a pistol belonging to the base from the unit area.” 500 soldiers were on base when the pistol was reported missing on October 9th. The Denver Post reported, “'lockdown' in this case means soldiers are not being released from duty until the item is found.”
