Michael Nesmith Joining Monkees 2016 Tour?

Viral rumors alleging that Michael Nesmith will be joining Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz for a Monkees 50th anniversary tour.

iRumorMill.com Determination: Hoax

Michael Nesmith

Mike Nesmith is not touring this year with the Monkees, but he will be performing with members of the original group in Los Angeles.

Update 08/20/16: Michael Nesmith announced on his Facebook feed that he will be performing with Micky and Peter at the Pantages in Los Angeles on September 16.

Nesmith wrote:  "Been talking to Micky and Peter about the Los Angeles Pantages Monkees concert and have agreed to come down to play that show with them. They are putting together a world tour after that -- off to Australia and New Zealand, and other points global in what sounds like a great time. I, on the other hand, will be starting my “Infinite Tuesday” book tour in the first quarter of 2017, as well as some solo concerts, and other projects that will make it not possible to be with them on that tour. So this seemed like the right opportunity for me to get together with them as Monkees. The show is set for September 16th -- which I believe is almost a perfect match for the fifty year anniversary of the TV show -- at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. I am bringing Gretsch, my beautiful, intelligent blonde to help me, and it looks like I’ll make it once again. I expect it will be fun, and a great way for me to sign out. I see the specter of the multiple Sinatra retirement/farewells -- and this seems like the perfect time for me to step off, sit down and shut up. Hope I see you there. No, I don’t have any tickets. What a long strange trip it’s been said TGD -- and it looks like I’ve made it to the end."

On March 7, 2016 Michael Nesmith put to rest the rumors that he will be touring with the Monkees. Nesmith wrote on his Facebook timeline:

Dear friends, followers and all Monkees fans everywhere;

In the scheme of things this is a tiny piece of information -- but I felt I needed to post it to be clear and answer questions that are coming in.

I have no plans to be on the Monkees tour that M&P are doing this Summer. The world turns, things change, true -- but right now such an event is practically certain not to be, and definitely not on my schedule now.

The Monkees show they do is perfect for hearing Monkees music and enjoying a remembrance of those times -- M&P work hard and put on a good show. I encourage you to see it.

All rumors that I will be performing with them are simply not true. I have no plans to do any shows on this tour.

Monkees 50th

Monkees Members Peter Tork and Micky Dolens will be touring in 2016, according to a Feb. 5, 2016 article by Rolling Stone.

The article said, "This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Monkees' television series and the release of their debut single 'Last Train To Clarksville.'" The Rolling Stone went on to say, "the group will celebrate by releasing their new album Good Times! and embarking on an extensive North American tour."

The Rolling Stone article also confirmed that Nesmith had no plans on joining the tour. After the death of singer Davey Jones, Nesmith toured briefly with the band but "stepped aside yet again and Dolenz and Tork began gigging without him." Dolenz told the Rolling Stone, "Mike has a lot of other arrows in his quiver." He added, "For starters, he runs a big business. He's also writing a book, which was the specific reason he gave me for not wanting to leave town again for any particular length of time."

The new album, which is set to be released June 10, will be loaded with special treats including songs by former Monkeey song writers Carol King and Neil Diamond. There will even be some tracks that include early recordings of Nesmith on guitar and vocals by Jones.
