Sweetwater Gibson Guitar Give Away

A Facebook advertisement from the Guitar Outlet alleging Sweetwater, an online musical supply store, is celebrating its 25th anniversary and giving away a Gibson guitar. When you apply to win you are taken to a contest form, asked 4 questions and then to a page to guess where your prize is. After 2 tries you win the guitar and are asked to submit a credit card for a $7.95 shipping charge.

Fraudulent Guitar Give Away

We called Sweetwater tonight and spoke to a representative who told us that there is no guitar give away contest.

Using a limited Paypal credit card with a $15 balance, we entered the contest and paid the shipping charge. Instead of being charged $7.95 the credit card was charged $24.19. We alerted Paypal to the fraudulent charge, cancelled the card and requested a new credit card.

The photo was snatched from a Youtube video done by Gerald Capps, who posted an unboxing video of his new Gibson J45. We are reaching out to him for a comment.

This shows the old saying could be true. If it sounds too good to be true, it is probably not.
